These letter-pressed alphabet cards were originally printed to form pages of a hard-bound book, produced by Richard Kostelanetz at the Center for Book Arts in New York. Each of the 26 letters are here imaginatively articulated, one per page, playfully exploring the alphabet’s potential as a set of phonetic, poetic units that make up language. The text body was set in 18 point type in Bulmer Roman; Futura Medium; Janson; Palentino; Optima and Weiss Roman; as well as various wood fonts.
Richard Kostelanetz, b. 1940, is a writer, artist, critic and editor. His mediums include prints, books, sound and film. He lives and works in New York.
