In Paolo Arao’s diptych, he explores the elasticity of queerness, sameness and difference by challenging viewers to observe the minute details that distinguish the fabric collages. His geometric abstractions at once reference and oppose their histories; delving deeper into discourses that center around the transparency and opacity of gender and sexuality. This series began while he was in residence at The Vermont Studio Center in January 2018.
