In her series of patches, Ephros draws contours of women onto squares of canvas. Her playful approach to DIY fashion contrasts with the stark simplicity of her black and white drawings, contributing to a subtle dissonance. In “Sugar Daddy” a girl can be seen leaning over on her hands and knees, her backside raised in the air and her arms twisted inward at an unnatural angle. In “One Winter Story” a pregnant woman stands alone, without context, her face turned away from the viewer.
Kayla Ephros, b. 1992 New Jersey, is a visual artist and poet currently based in Los Angeles, California.
