This exhibition poster was made for the launch of Lawrence Weiner’s catalogue raisonné, featuring his first eleven years of artists’ books and exhibition catalogues, that coincided with the artist’s show Books at Portikus—a division of the Frankfurt Institution for Contemporary Art in Germany. In 1989 from September 30th through October 29th, the gallery displayed an extensive collection of Weiner’s publications, each of which he treated as autonomous art objects. The poster design includes words from a large text installation which also appeared in the show, that read ‘Books Do Furnish a Room’ in both English and German.
Lawrence Weiner, b. 1942, Bronx, New York is considered a key figure of the Conceptual Art movement. He lives and works in New York and Amsterdam.
