Michael Portnoy
Kalochrome, 2014, Framed/Unframed

Portnoy consulted with a team of futurologists, trend forecasters, environmental scientists and agricultural experts to predict what will be the “hot” vegetable 20 years from now. Although the Kalochromes appear to be innocent bitmapped photographs of kale, they are actually encrypted images, through the process of steganography, of photographs of the “Kale of 2034.” Twenty years from now, the decryption key to the Kalochromes will be provided, so the images of the predicted vegetable can be revealed. Michael Portnoy, b. 1971, is an American multi-media artist and performer. He lives and works in New York. Screenprint on paper Signed, Edition of 3 53 × 41.25 inches framed 50 × 37.5 inches unframed
