Using a pre-determined stock set of seven industrial-use chalk colors, Nicholaus Jamieson employs a serial process, repeating, sampling and re-sampling his compositions. Shaped around the subtle variations in the texture of the chalk, the single color used on an individual piece becomes its primary defining characteristic. In the Exhibit series, colored chalk fields vibrate in shifting opacities, framing loosely worked graphite markings.
