Leanne Shapton explores bold structural forms in this ink on paper series inspired by a book on postmodern architecture,. The postmodern movement began in the 1960s and is associated with such notable architects as Frank Gehry, Michael Graves, Philip Johnson, and Robert Venturi. This work reflects Shapton’s longstanding interest in the repurposing of historical and published materials, which she explores through works of fiction, illustration, and journalism.
Leanne Shapton, b. 1973, Canada, is an author, artist, and publisher based in New York City. She co-founded J&L Books and is a former art director of the New York Times Opinion Section. Shapton has written and illustrated several books, and has contributed art and writing to The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and The Paris Review, among other publications.
