Qasim Naqui
Score for Chronology, 2016

Exhibited at P! in the Spring of 2016 as part of a collaboration with painter Pippo Lionni, this graphic score by composer Qasim Naqvi accompanies a musical work entitled Chronology 20160424 / 41°-74°. The five-part soundtrack, composed using a Moog Model D synthesizer, was transposed using a custom notational system that logged the synthesizer’s pitch and durational settings. The resulting graphic is a visual record of the composition’s range and dynamics. The score is accompanied with a legend to facilitate its reading, as well as a unique download code for the composition itself.
