Ikat Throws, Rachel Domm and Tantuvi, 2015

These Ikat throws were designed by Rachel Domm and Tantuvi Textiles, and individually made by handweavers in India. The new collaboration combines Domm’s usual adaptation of craft forms like basket-making and needlecraft with Tantuvi’s textile processes that reinterpret traditional Indian Ikat weaving techniques. Using repetition and patterning, Domm’s craft inspired motifs are here both literally and stylistically woven together, creating an undulating abstracted field of shifting depths and textures.

Rachel Domm, b. 1982, is an American artist and illustrator living in Brooklyn, New York.

Tantuvi, est. 2010, is the Brooklyn-based label of designer Arati Rao. Tantuvi produces textiles and clothing working exclusively with women in a hand-loom co-operative in South India.
