This poster advertises a benefit art sale for Trisha Brown Dance Company, held in from May 16–30, 1981, at Leo Castelli Greene Street, New York. The poster was designed by Robert Rauschenberg, who famously collaborated with the pioneering dancer and choreographer Trisha Brown. Collaborating on set and costume designs for works such as Glacial Decoy (1979), the sensibilities that united Rauschenberg and Brown have been referred to as “perversely postmodern” by Stephen Petronio, who restaged Glacial Decoy at the Joyce Theater New York, in March 2016.
Robert Rauschenberg, b. 1925—d. 2008, was an American painter and graphic artist whose early works anticipated the pop art movement.
