This new selection of work by Emma Kohlmann was produced at the University of Texas, where she was Guest Artist in Print last Spring. Departing from her usual sumi ink and watercolour, Kohlmann was able to experiment with Chine-collé, lithography, riso and monoprinting. What results is a world of infinite exchange — where a body becomes a face becomes an insect becomes a flower becomes a creature becomes a face becomes a body. The effect of this interchange leads to a kind of psychedelic blooming within the work, where attention passively trips from one thing to the next.
Emma Kohlmann, b. 1989, Bronx, New York, is a Massachusetts-based artist. She has prolifically self-published work across a range of print media, and has held solo shows in the US, Canada, Denmark and Japan.
