As a designer, Leah Horowitz possesses an intuitive knowledge of how we consume visual material in our daily lives and its impact on our interactions with media and technology. These risograph prints, developed during a period she spent working at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Center in New York, shed light on the more nascent stages of Horowitz’s process. With sparse but pointed composition, and a limited palette of three to four colors, the prints infer intimacy as though offering a glimpse into Horowitz’s inner world of images, slogans, icons. Yet, as risographs their poster-like quality also betrays the limitlessness and fluidity central to her work style. The resulting works suggest an endless stream of consciousness with myriad alignments, color combinations and possible interpretations.
Leah Horowitz (b. 1988, New York) studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she developed her design practice as a form of problem solving. Her process is equally weighted with contextual understanding and acute visual sensibility. Horowitz’s clients include Bloomberg, The New York Times and Vogue, and her work has featured in institutions including Printed Matter, PS1, and Yale University.
