Part of an ongoing series, Atlas of the World reflects Victoria Burge’s longstanding interest in mapping natural systems. Burge collects atlases, charts, photographs, and printed ephemera from the 19th and early 20th century, reinterpreting and building upon the existing imagery to create abstracted topographies. In Atlas of the World, Burge applies ink, acrylic, and pigment to an antique book page, drawing real and imagined connections that reconsider celestial patterns.
Victoria Burge is a printmaker and horticulturalist. She lives in Philadelphia.
