Victoria Burge
Untitled, 2015

The subtle topography of these prints are the resultant markings of Victoria Burge charting the atmospheric changes across a water surface. Exercises in visual mapping, the works translate movement into fixed pattern. Burge says, “Each piece informs the next in an attempt to map the inherently unstable and fleeting qualities of light on water. Throughout this study, I have observed how light often conceals as it illuminates; how it exists simultaneously as both a negative and positive space; how it creates surface but leaves only a perceived impression.”

Victoria Burge, b. 1976, is a printmaker and horticulturalist. She lives in Philadelphia.
