Yaz Norris
Techniques of the Observer Etchings, 2015, Framed/Unframed

Referencing ancient scientific diagrams used to hypothesize the behaviour of light and the mechanisms of the eye, these photograms have been produced by exposing photographic paper directly to the sun. Circular markings where a glass lens was laid onto the page during the exposure subtly reveal this process of ‘solarisation’ and form the basis for Norris’s overlaid hand-etching, which is worked directly on the page. Yaz Norris, b. 1991, is an English artist working with alternative photographic and early-camera techniques. She lives and works in South East London.
